TAS eHealth Directory

What is the TAS eHealth Directory?

The TAS eHealth Directory (the Directory) provides a secure and accurate source of information about where health care providers work and how they can most effectively be contacted.

The Directory currently includes all GP’s in Tasmania and is now being expanded to include contact details for other health provider groups such as specialists, allied health professionals and aged care facilities. This will ultimately make the Directory a central and authoritative source of health providers' contact details to enable secure communication of patient information across Tasmania.

What is the TAS eHealth Directory used for?

The primary purpose of the Directory is to support the efficient transfer of clinical information such as referrals from one health care provider to another. The Directory is also used to communicate public health alerts (e.g. outbreaks of communicable diseases, food poisoning etc) and to distribute clinical information about patients such as discharge summaries.

Who has access to the TAS eHealth Directory?

Any health related organisation (e.g. aged care facilities, hospitals) or health care provider delivering patient care who has a need to communicate with other organisations or other providers about their patients care will have access to the Directory. The Directory will provide a single trusted source of contact details for health care providers working in Tasmania. This will facilitate improved communication between Tasmania's public hospitals, private hospitals and other doctors and will ensure information is transferred to the correct health provider, using the preferred mode of communication and in rapid time so as not to cause unnecessary delays in patient care.

There is also a public online version available on the TAS eHealth website (Online Service Directory). This contains basic yellow pages contact information and has a service directory available for practices to populate if they wish.
