TAS eHealth Messaging

What is TAS eHealth Messaging?

The General Practice Tasmania Network has developed a secure electronic clinical messaging environment known as TAS eHealth Messaging (TeHM). The primary purpose of TAS eHealth Messaging is to provide a simple, fast and secure web-based messaging system which allows the exchange of clinical and patient information between healthcare providers electronically.

What is secure electronic messaging?

Businesses use email as a standard part of their day to maintain contact with clients and colleagues. However sending patient details using traditional email is unsecure and as such may compromise patient privacy. Doctors can use secure messaging to send patient data safely and securely over the Internet using Global Health’s ReferralNet messaging service.
ReferralNet encrypts your message and any attachmentsautomatically and sends it through to the intended recipient securely and cost effectively. Only the intended recipient is able to open and read the document.

What can the ReferralNet software do?

The ReferralNet software provides the ability to:

  • Receive reports and referrals from GP’s, specialists, hospitals, pathology and diagnostic imaging services
  • Send referrals and letters to GP’s, specialists and other health providers
  • Transform your existing data into a format that is delivered directly into your clinical software
  • ReferralNet also meets the standards required for elibility for the Medicare eHealth Practice Incentive Payment

Who else is using ReferralNet?

Click on the link at the top of the page for a list of healthcare providers who are using ReferralNet and who you can exchange secure messages.

How do I arrange for the installation of ReferralNet?

It’s a simple matter of filling out TAS eHealth Messaging Application form and faxing it back to TAS eHealth on 03 6224 3384. You will then be contacted within 10 working days to arrange the installation.

What will it cost?

The annual subscription is $286 per annum (GST inclusive) per user  and can potentially save significant costs associated with scanning, stationery and postage.

Fo all other providers the annual subscription is at $286 per annum (GST inclusive) for each registration.

What are the legal issues with electronic messaging?

When sending patient data over the Internet it is a requirement that the data be encrypted so that only the recipient can read the document. The need to address security and privacy concerns was at the top of the list in the design of the ReferralNet software. ReferralNet’s electronic referrals are compliant with the Electronic Transactions Act (1999). ReferralNet transmits data using Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) technology and every individual report can only be viewed by those who have specifically been granted access. Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) is a set of procedures and technology that provides security and confidentiality for electronic business.

How can I find out more about PKI?

For assistance with obtaining PKI certificates to comply with Medicare Australia requirements, contact TAS eHealth toll free on 1800 EHEALTH or go to the Medicare website at www.medicareaustralia.gov.au to learn more.

What support will I receive after ReferralNet is installed?
